Police claim a 16-year-old Millbrook, North Carolina, High School student was impaired and driving at more than twice the speed limit when he crashed a Jeep into a tree. He survived the suspected DWI accident, but a 17-year-old female passenger died.

The teen faces charges of provisional DWI and driving while impaired. He's also charged with felony death by motor vehicle, reckless driving and driving 45 mph over the 30 mph speed limit on Rainwater Road.

Police claim there was a noticeable alcohol smell coming from the Jeep, and they allegedly found illegal drugs and wine in the vehicle, leading to additional charges of possession of marijuana and having an open container of liquor. Authorities are now looking for the source of alcohol and drugs that were found in the Jeep.

Millbrook High School students said the accident victims were at a Friday night party attended by other students.

If investigators can find who sold alcohol to the teens or purchased it for them, further charges will be filed. A conviction for providing alcohol to minors in North Carolina can lead to a fine of up to $1,000 and as many as 150 hours of community service. An additional wrongful death civil suit could be filed for as much as $500,000 against the alcohol provider.

The accused teen was on probation at the time of the fatal car accident, following a conviction for larceny and breaking and entering.

The teen needs legal representation, so law enforcement cannot intimidate him into confessing to anything that isn't true. A drunk driving conviction can do irreparable harm to someone if they are convicted, so they need to make sure all legal rights are respected.
